Stop Waking Up Early: How to Fully Automate Your Rust Wipe Schedule
By VYKIX Team | Updated: January 2026
It is Thursday. The forced update is dropping soon. While your players are excited for a fresh start, you are setting an alarm for 3:00 AM (or whenever the update hits your timezone) to manually delete files, change map seeds, and update your server title.
If you are a server owner, “Wipe Day” is usually a synonym for “Stress Day.”
One typo in your server.cfg, one corrupted map file, or a plugin that refuses to load, and you lose half your player base to a competitor who wiped 10 minutes faster than you.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
At VYKIX, we believe automation should be standard, not a luxury. That’s why we built a native Auto-Wipe Tool directly into our game panel. Here is how you can set up a “set and forget” wipe schedule that handles everything—even renaming your server—while you sleep.
The Problem with “Plugin” Automation
In the past, admins relied on uMod plugins like AutomatedWipe or complex Cron jobs to handle schedules. The problem? Plugins run inside the server.
If the Rust update breaks Oxide/Carbon (which happens frequently on wipe day), the plugin cannot load. If the plugin doesn’t load, the wipe doesn’t happen. You wake up to an outdated server and angry Discord messages.
The VYKIX Solution: Our tool runs externally on the panel level. It works regardless of whether Oxide is updated, ensuring your files are cleaned and your seed is rotated 100% of the time.
Feature Deep Dive: The VYKIX Auto-Wipe System
Looking at our panel, we have designed specific features to solve the most annoying parts of the wipe process.
1. Dynamic Server Renaming (The %DAY% Feature)
The most tedious part of wiping is manually changing your hostname from “Rust Server [Wiped 1/1]” to “Rust Server [Wiped 1/8]”.
With VYKIX, you don’t have to touch the config.
- How it works: In the Server Name field, you can use variables like
%DAY%and%MONTH%. - The Result: When the wipe triggers, our system automatically calculates the current date and updates your server browser title instantly.
2. Never Reuse a Seed Again
Players hate playing on the same map twice. Finding a new, good seed takes time.
- The Fix: Toggle the “Random Seed” switch.
- What it does: We automatically generate a valid, random integer for your
server.seedon every wipe. Your players get a fresh procedural map every time, guaranteed.
3. Smart File Cleanup
You don’t want to delete your entire server—just the map and save data.
- Wildcard Support: Our “Files” section lets you use wildcards like
/server/rust/*.map. - Safety: This ensures you delete the old map files to save space, but keeps your
oxide/configand player data intact (unless you choose to wipe blueprints).
4. Blueprint Wipes: Your Choice
Doing a “Map Only” wipe? Keep the Wipe Blueprints toggle off.
Doing a “Full Wipe”? Flip the switch. The system handles the deletion of player.blueprints.db automatically.
Tutorial: Setting Up Your First Auto-Wipe
Ready to automate your Thursday? Here is the 60-second setup guide using the VYKIX panel.
- Navigate to Schedules: Open your server in the VYKIX panel and click “Scheduled Wipes.”
- Set the Timezone: Ensure the dropdown matches your local time (e.g.,
Africa/Abidjan,Europe/London,America/New_York) so the wipe happens when you expect it. - Configure the Name:
- Click “Load Current” to pull your existing hostname.
- Edit the title to include the date variables:
VYKIX 2x Vanilla | JUST WIPED %DAY%/%MONTH%
- Map Settings:
- Leave “Map Size” as is.
- Crucial: Turn on Random Seed.
- Select Files:
- Our system will default to the standard save files. You can review them in the “Files” text block.
- Schedule It:
- Toggle “Schedule Wipe”.
- Set the Cron (Time). For a weekly wipe, this is usually Thursday.
- Save.
That’s it. You are done.

Conclusion
Server hosting shouldn’t be a second job. By using the VYKIX Auto-Wipe tool, you ensure consistency for your community and sanity for yourself.
